As a socially-minded doctor, Dr. Alexander Spengler, who can be considered the founder of the spa town of Davos, gave the impetus for the construction of the first “people's sanatorium”, which would also enable less well-off patients to stay at a spa. The project was significantly promoted by the Protestant parish of Davos. Deaconesses from Bern were willing to provide care free of charge. The house chapel was inaugurated for them in 1870. After Spengler's death, the house was named “Alexander House” after him. The well-preserved chapel was deconsecrated. Today it is used as a function room and unfortunately can no longer be visited by the public.
