Limitless freedom
Paragliding – tandem flights in Davos Klosters

The addiction to the sky

What began as a test of courage developed into his passion: Today, Robert Giesch fulfills his dream of flying almost every day. Alone or with a partner on a professional tandem flight in Davos Klosters.

One last look at the straps, adjust his sunglasses and he starts running. Determined towards the abyss. There is no way back. Full speed. The abyss is getting closer and closer. Is that OK? The last few meters. But there it is! Behind him, his colorful paraglider rises up. Rescue is in sight: his feet lift off in time - and he glides seemingly effortlessly over the mountains of Davos Klosters. Robert Giesch has become addicted to the sky.

A momentous test of courage

It all began with a test of courage: "My flatmates in Davos at the time all came up with the idea of starting paragliding. I was taken aback," says Giesch, looking back. He was the one in his group who had the most respect for the idea. But perhaps that is precisely why paragliding fascinated him from the start. The moment when he took off and no longer felt the ground beneath his feet, just floating - Giesch remembers it as if it were yesterday: "It is like diving into another element."

Adrenaline rush followed by happiness

In his everyday working life, he teaches people about flying with a tandem flight. For many, such a flight is a first. "At first, my guests are tense, they feel the adrenaline rushing through their veins. Then the amazement begins: They notice how quiet it is - often you only hear the gentle rush of the wind. And they enjoy the new perspective." In summer, Giesch likes to take off with guests on the Brämabüel. The take-off site there is open in terms of terrain and offers a good view of Davos.

Tandem flights require teamwork

Unlike skydiving, the guide cannot simply push guests out of the plane during a tandem flight. Quite the opposite. Paragliding requires teamwork and trust. Guests can often control the plane themselves during the flight. Giesch finds flying at sunset to be a special experience: "Flying towards the sun when the last rays bathe the landscape in warm colors. Then happiness is complete."
