Snowfarming is over

The charged snowfarming service in the Flüela Valley has been discontinued again. Cross-country skiers can now once again enjoy an extended and free range of trails in Davos. Anyone who still has a snowfarming start number can return it to Hofmänner Sport, Flury Sports and Coaching, Bünda Sport or the indoor swimming pool in Davos. You can find more information about the cross-country trails in the trail report.

Snow farming is a key concept in snow management. We have been covering a mound of snow with sawdust every spring since 2008. This snow is used in the autumn to prepare a cross-country ski trail before new snow can be produced. Covering the snow means that we can retain around 70-80% of the volume, which enables the resort to start the season earlier, regardless of the temperatures in autumn.

The 4 km long snow farming cross-country skiing trail open at Saturday, 30th October 2021 and can be used by both athletes and amateurs.

Teams and private individuals can use the snow farming cross-country skiing trail, although teams have to register in advance. Users who wish to train during the long-distance time slots for competitive sports must register online.

Flüelatal - Snowfarming Loipe

Snow farming in Davos was extended in autumn of 2015 with the construction of a new infrastructure. Three times the volume of snow could be produced and stored during the winter of 2015/16. This over-summered snow is used in late-autumn to create a 4 km long cross-country trail in the lower Flüela Valley.
