Barrier-free lifts and mountain restaurants, adventure park for families and sporting highlights such as ski touring, hiking and trail running: Madrisa, Klosters' local mountain, impresses all year round.
Few ski resorts cater to families with young children and people with disabilities as much as Madrisa. No wonder: The children's snow parks in Madrisa Land and Madrisa Park Klosters offer a special practice area. Four magic carpets whisk little skiers up the slopes. And with a snowbike (available at Intersport near the mountain station), they can ride down the slopes sitting down with skis attached – ideal for beginners. While the children practice their first turns on three practice lifts, parents can explore the ski area with its 23 kilometers of slopes. When there's enough snow, the 7.7-kilometer toboggan run to Saas, the winter hiking trails to Mässplatte and Zügenhüttli, and the new Mässplatte snowshoe trail are among the highlights.
Speaking of which: Madrisa-Land is the first adventure park in the Swiss Alps to offer play opportunities for children with physical and visual impairments. The children's area boasts a marble run, bouncy castle, slides, water features, and swings – everything children need to let loose and have fun. Tip: During the summer season, the life-size mascot, Henne Hanna, can be found on some Sundays. And families who would like to stay longer can even spend the night in the on-site treehouses or in the new Star Suite.
In addition to its family offering, Madrisa is also interesting for athletes all year round. Ski tourers and freeriders love the Madrisa circular tour to Austria and back again. In summer, this route is also known as a hike on former smugglers' paths. Trail runners run past spectacular ridges - and paragliders take off from the launch site near the Schaffürggli chairlift. Not enough yet? A 3D course for archers and monster scooters ensure action in summer.
Those with a handicap don't have to miss out on winter sports. At least, on Madrisa. The cable car and the mountain restaurant are wheelchair accessible. The 6-seater chairlift Schaffürggli also transports skiers with monoskis. The special thing: the safety bar closes and opens automatically. The seat height also adjusts automatically - thus ensuring comfort. Word has got around: every winter, veterans with war injuries come from Great Britain.
