World record for biker Tom Oehler: 15 summits in 14 hours

Tom Oehler Gipfel Weltrekord

Austrian professional mountain biker Tom Oehler set a new RID world record in Davos Klosters. He climbed 15 mountain peaks on an e-mountain bike within 14 hours, covering 102 kilometers and 5,500 meters of elevation gain.

Tom Oehler set off from Davos Dorf at 5:30 a.m. with the goal of conquering as many peaks as possible in one day. Within 14 hours, he conquered 15 mountain peaks. Riding his e-mountain bike—a Haibike Hybe CF11—he covered 5,500 meters of elevation gain and 102 kilometers in three loops that day. The final climb took him to the Chörbschhorn, the 15th peak of the day, around 6 p.m., where his wife and some friends were waiting for him. "After so many hours of biking alone, accompanied only by numerous drones, it was really cool to share the last descent with others," reported the 42-year-old.

Davos as the ideal venue for the bike world record
"Davos offers everything you need for a project like this: alpine heights, technical trails, and a willingness to ride," enthused Oehler, who, as the official bike ambassador of Davos Klosters, is extremely familiar with the terrain. The dense, freely accessible trail network, the striking peaks around Jakobshorn, Pischahorn, and Weissfluh, as well as the region's affinity for bikes, made Davos the ideal venue. World records have already been set in Davos in the past. In 2021, the singletrack record for vertical meters was broken, and in 2023, the uphill record for the most vertical meters with an e-bike was broken. The summit world record, published today and still valid, followed on September 3, 2024.

Preparation and precision led to success The world record follows the specifications of the Record Institute for Germany (RID), which certifies world records in German-speaking countries: a maximum of 16 hours and at least ten defined summits. Oehler planned his route down to the smallest detail and scheduled all battery changes in advance according to the Record Institute's specifications. Every meter was checked, every climb strategically prepared. His route led in three loops around Davos. Occasionally, the Haibike team rider had to carry his bike up to the summit because the climb was impassable. After 14 hours, Oehler returned to the starting point in the evening, exhausted but happy, and accepted the certificate for his RID world record. An award for outstanding sporting achievement in one of the most demanding biking regions in the Alps.
