Masters World Cup Klosters

750 athletes from 29 nations participated in the international cross-country skiing event from March 9 to 15. In addition to the sporting highlights, there was also plenty of excitement.

Klosters hosted the Masters World Cup for the second time. Athletes competed in various disciplines over distances ranging from 5 to 30 kilometers.

Exciting competitions and prominent guests
The competition week began with a celebratory opening ceremony on Sunday, March 9, at Bahnhofplatz in Klosters. There, the participating nations were welcomed with music, setting the stage for an exhilarating sporting spectacle.

After two intense days of racing on Monday and Tuesday, with two races each day, the Champion's Race provided entertainment on March 12th, as celebrities from sports, politics, and culture competed in a biathlon competition. Among them were sports legends such as Selina Gasparin (biathlon), Armin Niederer (ski cross), Seraina Boner (cross-country skiing), Corina Gantenbein (MTB), Paul Accola (alpine skiing), and Ruedi Weber (Paralympian), as well as SRF commentator Jan Zürcher, Destination Davos Klosters CEO Albi Kruker, Mr. Spengler Cup Fredi Pargätzi, and mayor Hansueli Roth.

Thursday marked ta major highlight for Swiss cross-country skiing fans: former World Cup heroes Dario Cologna and Christian Fischer returned to the trails for a relay race, with Roman Furger stepping in for the ill Curdin Perl.

International atmosphere and perfect conditions
With perfectly groomed trails and a stunning mountain backdrop, Klosters offered ideal conditions and was able to demonstrate its reputation as a top Swiss cross-country skiing destination. 446 medals were awarded, with Finland leading the medal count with 77, followed by Switzerland (69) and Germany (65).

Organizing committee president Dominik Heeb looked back on the week with great satisfaction: "The applause for the 92-year-old winner Artino Rosso from Italy and the unique atmosphere at the closing dinner, where athletes from 29 nations celebrated together, were particularly touching."
