With a best time of 50.96 seconds, Marc Jost secured victory in today's British-Swiss parliamentary ski race, followed by Clifton Wrottesley and Nicolo Paganini. The fastest parliamentarian was Barbara Schaffner with a time of 1:02.16. Yvonne Gilli came in second, and Victoria Borwick took bronze. A total of 26 parliamentarians made it to the finish line in the giant slalom on Parsenn in glorious weather.
Political contact in the snow
The giant slalom is the highlight of the British-Swiss parliamentary ski week in Davos, which took place for the 69th time this year. The focus was on maintaining contacts, political discussions about the relationship between Great Britain and Switzerland, and bilateral relations between Switzerland and Great Britain.
An event rich in tradition
The ski race originally dates back to a meeting of parliamentarians from the two countries in 1956 in a Davos hotel. The two groups spontaneously competed in skiing. One year later, the first organized ski race took place - laying the foundation for a long tradition. It is considered the oldest parliamentary sporting event in the world.
