A hotel made entirely of snow, nestled in the heart of our destination's mountains: The Davos Klosters Igloo Village is located at 2,570 meters above sea level in the Madrisa ski area in Klosters and offers a unique winter experience.
In Davos Klosters, the offer also includes a so-called Kota – an octagonal wooden hut with a central fireplace and cosy seating benches. In front of the Kota, a sun terrace invites guests to relax while enjoying panoramic mountain views. This means that the Iglu-Dorf is not only an overnight experience: during the day, visitors can stop by for a traditional cheese fondue either inside the igloo restaurant or on the sunny terrace of the Kota.
Whether as a fondue stop during a day of skiing or as an overnight stay under the stars, the Igloo Village combines nature, snow art, and alpine tranquility.
Staying overnight in an igloo: minimalist yet comfortable
«Spending the night in a hotel built entirely of snow is definitely a very special and unforgettable experience», says Géraldine Pucken, Media Relations Manager for Igloo Village GmbH.
The temperature inside the igloo remains consistently around freezing. Guests sleep in expedition sleeping bags on insulating mats. Depending on the package, the offerings include fondue in the igloo restaurant, breakfast, as well as a sauna and whirlpool.
Rebuilt every year
The Igloo Village is rebuilt from scratch every winter.
«We construct the Igloo Village using our own patented balloon technology», explains Pucken. «A large balloon is inflated and covered with snow. Once the snow has settled, we deflate it. This creates the basic structure of the igloos before our artist, Martijn from the Netherlands, begins creating the snow sculptures and adding the finishing touches. We are very fortunate that Martijn has been doing this for us for over 10 years.»
Inside, guests can expect artistically designed rooms, which feature a new theme every year. No two winters are alike. Under the theme of «circus», this winter the bar, lounge, restaurant and rooms have been transformed into a poetic winter circus experience – from clowns, artists and animal figures to trapeze acts, ice carousels and impressive snow sculptures. Last winter, the artistic theme was South America, and before that, Hollywood blockbusters were the focus.
Whirlpool under the stars
In addition to the restaurant and snow bar, a small wellness area is also available.
«I would definitely recommend a soak in the whirlpool», says the media spokesperson. «Bathing surrounded by hot water and snow under a starry sky – it feels absolutely incredible." It's precisely this contrast between the cold outside and the warmth in the water that makes the experience so special.»
