Ceramic painting in Davos: A creative break in the ceramic painting workshop

Published : 24. February 2026

Since December 2025, the ceramic painting studio at Mattastrasse 17 has been a place not just for crafting, but for painting, dabbing, and experimenting. It's a space in Davos that consciously offers a counterpoint to the fast pace of life outside: calm, creative, and surprisingly relaxing.

«We knew immediately: Davos needs this.»

The idea was born two and a half years ago on a girls' trip. «We discovered ceramic painting and knew right away: We wanted to create something like this in Davos», explain founders Karin and Anina. After intensive brainstorming and a course in Berlin, their enthusiasm turned into a plan.

With the expansion of Kaufmann Hardware at Mattastrasse 17, the perfect opportunity arose in December 2025, and the ceramic painting studio opened its doors.

Two hours that fly by

The principle is simple: From over 100 blank pieces – from mugs and plates to large salad bowls – you choose a favorite and paint it yourself. No prior experience is necessary. «There’s no right or wrong», say the founders. «Each person is at the center of their own process.»

What many underestimate is how quickly the time passes. «Guests often say that the two and a half hours fly by.» Perhaps because you’re suddenly completely absorbed in the activity. In the paint. With the sample. With yourself.

Prices range from CHF 15 to CHF 89, depending on the piece, with most models priced between CHF 30 and CHF 45. Paints, painting supplies, glazing, and firing are included. Drinks, light snacks, and a glass of wine further enhance the relaxed atmosphere.

The little wow moment

A special feature only becomes apparent later. «The colors often appear paler when applied than they do in the end», the two explain. After glazing and firing, they shine more intensely, and this is precisely what often creates that quiet «wow» moment when picking up the finished piece.

The finished pieces are ready after five to ten days. Those who are no longer in Davos can also have them shipped.

What remains – besides ceramics

Of course, the painted piece is the focus. But not only that: «We want people to take home a wonderful experience», say the founders. Conversations. Encounters. A short creative break from everyday life. And perhaps the desire to do it again.
