Around 20,000 cubic meters of snow form the basis for the early start to the season in Davos Klosters. The mountain of snow, which was protected with a 40-centimeter-thick layer of sawdust during the summer, measures over 20 meters high. About 80 percent of its volume is thus retained until autumn.
From the depot to the trail
The snow groomer removes the snow in portions, loads it into trucks by a snow blower, and spreads it over the trail. One truckload covers approximately six meters of trail. Starting about two weeks before the opening, the final work is in full swing. The progress can be followed daily via the webcam at the snowfarming trail.
Optimal training conditions
The snowfarming trail has provided perfect conditions for season preparation for 17 years – for both recreational and elite athletes. Every year, national teams from over twelve nations take advantage of this early snow guarantee in Davos Klosters, especially in preparation for the FIS Cross-Country World Cup Davos Nordic in mid-December.
