Touda dreams of becoming a recognised sheikha, a traditional Moroccan artist who sings uncensored lyrics about resistance, love and emancipation that have been handed down for generations. Every night she performs in the bars of her provincial town under the lustful gaze of men, hoping for a better future for herself and her son. But as a single mother in a patriarchal society, she has a hard time. When she is abused and humiliated, she decides to leave everything behind and try her luck in Casablanca... Accompanied by hypnotic Moroccan music, French-Moroccan director Nabil Ayouch paints the portrait of a fun-loving woman who fights courageously and unflinchingly for her emancipation. ‘Everybody Loves Touda’ celebrated its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
