Snowfarming

For a predictable start of the season

Snow farming Davos

Snow farming is a key concept in snow management. We have been covering a mound of snow with sawdust every spring since 2008. This snow is used in the autumn to prepare a cross-country ski trail before new snow can be produced. Covering the snow means that we can retain around 70-80% of the volume, which enables the resort to start the season earlier, regardless of the temperatures in autumn.

The 4 km long snow farming cross-country skiing trail open at Saturday, 31th October 2020 and can be used by both athletes and amateurs.

Teams and private individuals can use the snow farming cross-country skiing trail, although teams have to register in advance. They can do so by using the utilisation request form.

For teams: Please fill in the following utilisation request for registration:

Utilisation request for teams

Snow farming in Davos was extended in autumn of 2015 with the construction of a new infrastructure. Three times the volume of snow could be produced and stored during the winter of 2015/16. This over-summered snow is used in late-autumn to create a 4 km long cross-country trail in the lower Flüela Valley.

Snowfarming-Shuttle

The snowfarming shuttle brings you every saturday and sunday, during the hours of use for the public (other users), every hour from Davos Platz/Dorf to the Snowfarming slope and back again. In order to be able to plan the trips, the ticket has to be purchased at the latest by 4 p.m. the day before at the Ferienshop or at the reception of a cross-country skiing hotel.

Parking

There is only limited parking adjacent to the snow-farming arena. We would therefore ask trainers to drive their athletes to the snow farming arena and to park their cars in the "Färich" car park at the entrance to the Flüela Valley. Follow instructions issued by marshals.
