Which side valley suits you best?

Published : 14. August 2026

Around Davos Klosters, valleys branch off, each one more different than the last. Waterfalls and mountain lakes await you here, as well as rugged high-alpine landscapes and surprisingly tranquil retreats. Every valley has its own unique character. The only question that remains is: Which one is right for your next getaway?

Want to see a waterfall? Then head to the Sertig Valley.
The journey to Sertig is part of the experience. Beyond the small village of Sertig, the valley opens up wider and wider until, near the Walserhuus, the striking peaks of Mittagshorn, Plattenflue, and Hochducan dominate the scenery. The real highlight awaits at the very end of the valley: the Sertig Waterfall.

Things you can experience in the Sertig Valley:

  • Take a leisurely stroll from the Walserhuus towards the head of the valley and, after about 30 minutes, admire the waterfall, which plunges approximately 60 meters in three stages.
  • Stop at the small church "Hinter den Eggen," built in 1699 in the village of Sertig and discover one of the valley's most popular photo spots.
  • Ride your mountain bike to Sertig via the Alps Epic Trail. The first section leads from the Jakobshorn down to the village of Sertig on a flowing singletrack.

Good to know: It's worth taking a look back at the waterfall. In the late afternoon, the light softens as it falls into the valley, revealing the Sertig from a different perspective.

Looking for peace and quiet? Then the Dischma Valley is for you.
Stretching approximately twelve kilometers from Davos to its end, the Dischma is the longest of Davos' side valleys. Here, the journey is the destination: the crystal-clear Dischma stream, fed by glacial meltwater, alpine pastures, and ever-increasing mountains as you travel towards Dürrboden.

Things you can experience in the Dischma Valley:

  • Hike along the Dischma stream or cycle deeper into the valley.
  • Take a break at Teufi or continue on to Dürrboden at the very end of the valley, where another mountain inn awaits.
  • Hike from Dürrboden to the Grialetsch Hut. The standard route takes about 1.5 hours, climbs 540 meters in altitude, and is classified as a T2 mountain hiking trail (marked white-red-white).

Good to know: There's a lovely rest area by the Dischmabach stream right on the route near the Chindsch-Huus. A quiet stop that's easy to miss.

Looking for high alpine scenery? Then head to the Flüela Valley.
In the Flüela Valley, the landscape changes with every kilometer. Forests and alpine pastures gradually give way to rock, mountain streams, and a barren high-alpine landscape. Once you reach the Flüela Pass, Davos suddenly feels quite far away.

Things you can experience in the Flüela Valley:

  • Follow the Flüela stream and watch as the green valley transforms into an increasingly rugged alpine landscape. * Take a walk through the forest in the lower Flüela Valley. A great option, especially on warm days and with a dog.
  • Tackle the pass road up to the Flüela Pass on your road bike.

Good to know: Road cycling enthusiasts can combine the Flüela and Albula routes into one long loop: 111.5 kilometers and 2,591 meters of elevation gain. A long day in the saddle, but one you'll remember for a long time.

Want to get as far away from everyday life as possible? Then discover the Vereina Valley.
Behind Monbiel in Klosters, the trail leads deeper and deeper into the mountains. Once you reach the top, a mountain stream, a waterfall, and a pristine high valley await you at around 1,940 meters.

Here's what you can experience in the Vereina Valley:

  • Follow the rushing Vereina stream through the valley.
  • Keep an eye out for the waterfall on your way to the Berghaus Vereina mountain hut.
  • Explore the high valley on foot and finish your tour with a stop at the hut.

Good to know: You don't necessarily have to cover the approximately 14-kilometer route to the Vereina under your own steam. In summer, the Vereina bus runs to the valley according to a timetable and by reservation. This leaves more energy for a hike up top.

Want a mountain lake and Walser idyll? Then head to Schlappin.
Above Klosters, Schlappin lies secluded between mountain slopes and a lake. But the small Walser village is not only idyllic, but also steeped in history: the first Walser settlement in the Prättigau region was established here at the beginning of the 14th century.

What you can experience in Schlappin:

  • Hike or bike up to the former Walser village from Klosters.
  • Find a picnic spot by Lake Schlappin and simply stay for a while.
  • Stop for refreshments at the Berghaus Erika or extend your trip with an overnight stay.

Good to know: Don't just focus on the lake in Schlappin. A stroll through the small settlement is also worthwhile. The wooden houses and the secluded location still reflect the Walser history of the place.

Still undecided? All the better. Each of these valleys reveals a different side of Davos Klosters. Today a waterfall, next time a mountain lake, and then perhaps up to the pass.
