Film shooting starts for historical drama «Davos»

For several days now, Swiss television has been filming a historical spy thriller in Davos. The six-part series is the most expensive and largest Swiss film production ever.

During the First World War, Davos may have seemed like an oasis of peace, but that is deceptive. Not only did the prominent figures from politics, business, the nobility, art and literature meet here. In truth, some powerful individuals came to Davos to secretly pull the strings of world politics. In secret, a relentless agent war of the world powers was raging. In the midst of it were those seeking salvation on a high-altitude cure and inhabitants. This makes Davos the ideal setting for the spy drama.

25 shooting days in Davos - from November to MarchWith a budget of 15 million Swiss francs, the Swiss-German co-production is the largest and most expensive in Swiss history. Shooting in several countries is costly, and behind-the-scenes preparations have been underway for some time. For two years, the production company has been looking for locations in Davos. In addition to various outdoor and nature scenes in the Davos mountains, shots are also planned on the Schatzalp. The hotel is being staged as a sanatorium, which is central to the series. In addition to Davos, the film crew is also shooting in the Prättigau region and in Germany. During the 25 days of filming, between 50 and 100 crew and cast members are expected to stay overnight in Davos, resulting in around 1,875 overnight stays.

The story of a Graubünden woman who spies for the secret service
Inspired by true events, "Davos" tells the fictionalised story of a young woman during the First World War. At the centre is the young Graubünden Red Cross nurse, Johanna Gabathuler. She is the daughter of a sanatorium owner in Davos. When she returns to Davos from her duties at the frontline, she is expecting an illegitimate child. The family is so concerned about their own reputation that they separate mother and child. To win back her daughter, the nurse gets involved in a deadly game. She begins to spy for the German secret service. In the 2023 holiday schedule, the film series is expected to achieve a market share of 35 to 40 percent on SRF. This corresponds to around 750,000 viewers.
