New Schifer cable car: Construction begins for Parsenn's future

Published : 15. July 2026

One of the largest infrastructure projects of the coming years is now underway on Parsenn: the Schifer cable car is being replaced by a state-of-the-art 10-person gondola lift. Following the approval of the building permit, construction has officially begun. The new lift is scheduled to open for the 2027/28 winter season.

The existing Schifer cable car has connected Schifer with the Weissfluhjoch since 1987. After nearly 40 years of operation, it has reached the end of its technical service life. The new lift will be built by Garaventa using its latest D-Line technology and will feature 84 wind-resistant 10-person gondolas. The current intermediate station at Obersäss will not be replaced, creating a more direct and efficient connection.

The new lift will offer greater comfort, increased transport capacity and, above all, significantly shorter travel times. Instead of the current journey of around 22 minutes, you will reach the Weissfluhjoch in approximately 14 minutes.

Construction is being carried out in stages. While the existing Schifer cable car will remain in operation throughout the 2026/27 winter season, work has already begun on the foundations, support towers, and the new valley and mountain stations. The total investment amounts to around CHF 35 million and is being financed by Davos Klosters Bergbahnen AG.

The new gondola lift will secure the long-term connection between Schifer and the Weissfluhjoch, ensuring it is ready for the future.
