Hiking enthusiasts can follow in the footsteps of researchers from the WSL (Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research) and its SLF (WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research) site and gain insights into their work. The eight hikes in the book, some of them high alpine, lead to the avalanche barriers near Parsenn, to the permafrost on the Flüela Pass and Flüelaschwarzhorn, and to one of the best-surveyed areas in Switzerland using remote sensing – the Dischma Valley.
In the footsteps of scientific research
How is biodiversity on mountain peaks changing in times of climate change? Which trees are ideal for a protective forest? And what happens to the permafrost when it gets warmer? Researchers at the SLF and WSL are investigating these and many other questions. The new science and hiking guide for Davos and the surrounding area, "Hiking Where Others Research," explains where and how. It will be published by Haupt Verlag on May 12, 2025. An on-the-go app complements the hiking guide.
