What a final! Fribourg-Gottéron and HC Davos gave each other no quarter. In the first four games, the away team prevailed each time. In Game 5 on home ice, HCD shifted the momentum in their favour – for the time being.
In the sixth game, Jeremi Gerber rescued Fribourg-Gottéron in overtime, forcing another showdown. This led to the decisive seventh game.
The final game could hardly have been more dramatic. After Gottéron took a 2-0 lead, HCD tied the game in regulation time. The decision came down to overtime once again. There, Swede Lucas Wallmark scored on the power play in the sixth minute of overtime to make it 3-2 and win the final for Fribourg-Gottéron. With this victory, Fribourg-Gottéron celebrates its first Swiss championship title in club history.
For HC Davos, a strong playoff campaign ends without the ultimate prize. Their last title win was ten years ago. Head coach Josh Holden's team impressed in the playoffs with consistency, composure, and determination, dominating much of the final. Even though they ultimately fell short of the title, we are proud of our HCD.
