Discovering the power of water

Published : 22. September 2026

Water, energy, and nature converge at Rinerhorn. The new 4.8-kilometer-long "Rinerhorn Hydropower Adventure Trail" playfully demonstrates how renewable energy is generated from water. Interactive stations, Lake Nüllisee, and a glimpse inside the turbine house make the route from Jatzmeder to Davos Glaris an exciting experience for visitors of all ages.

The new adventure trail combines nature, learning and physical activity. Along the route, visitors learn more about water sources, the water cycle, kinetic energy, and the use of hydropower. It's not just about explanations – at various stations, visitors can discover and try things out for themselves.

A 4.8-kilometre hydropower adventure
The adventure trail starts at the Jatzmeder mountain station and leads down to the Rinerhorn valley station. The 4.8-kilometre route takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to hike. Along the way, Lake Nüllisee, with its barbecue area, invites you to take a break amidst the mountain scenery.

For those who want a bit more speed, the adventure trail can also be explored by kick scooter. Kick scooters can be rented directly at the mountain station and returned to the valley station after the ride. Helmets and a short briefing are included. The ride down to the valley takes about 30 minutes and is also suitable for families and groups.

Where water becomes electricity
The trail ends at the turbine house at the valley station. Two turbines can be viewed up close here, showing how hydropower is used to generate renewable electricity. The turbine house is open daily from 8.30 am to 5 pm during the summer and winter seasons.

Behind this experience lies real infrastructure: Lake Nüllisee, created in 2020, is used for snowmaking. Since December 2025, the small hydropower plant at the valley station has also been generating electricity. The adventure trail makes this interplay of water, energy, and the mountain landscape understandable and tangible for visitors.
