The text for your websiteIn episodes, the film DHAU - A photographic odyssey in Sinbad's footsteps tells the story of the photographer's career and his odyssey in Sinbad's footsteps in the Indian Ocean. From the film work Beat Presser puts his mouth in the sea on the French Atlantic coast to filming for BERG-e or the sufferings of e-syphus on the Flüela Pass in the Swiss Alps and through the Peruvian jungle with the steamer “Molly Aida” at Fitzcarraldo. Three episodes, three spectacular film adventures in a Sisyphean and Dadaist manner. On the mountain, in the sea and in the jungle. Beat Presser goes to sea off the coast of Tanzania in 2009 and 2010. 15 years 15 years later, he and filmmaker Danit take stock of the situation: Many of the shipyards have given way to hotel complexes, tourism is taking over, a large part of the local population is giving up their trades, fast plastic boats are replacing an age-old tradition. However, there are still niches and places where traditions continue to exist. This can also be seen in this documentary with spectacular images. Towards the end of the film, the moviegoer witnesses a long sea voyage. With the dhow “Makida” under the command of Captain Shamada, the ship calls at various East African ports to present the photo exhibition “Kusi na Kazkasi” to the local population. The exhibition “Kusi na Kazkasi” will be on display from December 20 at Cinema89 - Kulturschuppen. Just as the exhibition was on the sea in 2010. The photo exhibition opens on 20.12.2024 at 19.30 and can be seen until 5 January 2025. The film will be followed by a film talk with Danit and Beat Presser.
