In the night of Tuesday, a massive rockfall occurred at Flüela Wisshorn. Since further rockfalls are possible, ski tourers should avoid the normal route to the Flüela Wisshorn at the moment.
As the Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research reports on Facebook, on Monday, 18.03.19 at midnight a rockfall buried half the northwest flank of the Flüala Wisshorn (3085 m a.s.l.). This also affects part of the ski tour route to the "Winterlücke". Since further rockfalls are possible, the affected area should be avoided on a large scale. Especially alpinists and ski tourers should not use the normal route to the Flüela Wisshorn (Route No. 551a) from the Karlimatten to the Winterlücke at the moment. The photo of N. Conrad shows the extent of this natural phenomenon.
