The Sea & I create a vast cacophony of sound, eased elegantly into an impressive blend of conventional pop songs. Who’s Jack Magazine Classically-trained musician and arranger Paul Frith is no stranger to collaboration. Having worked with Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, Broken Social Scene, Patrick Watson and Local Natives, he is now stepping forward to helm his own musical project.
The Sea & I revolves around four permanent band members – Paul (piano/vocals), Naomi (bass/synth/vocals), Bernie (drums) and Irwin (guitar/vocals) - who are always joined by a surprise "fifth element”. This can be anything from a 10-piece brass band or a 40-piece choir to a lone violinist. Also on board is acclaimed lighting designer Josh Carr. It all makes for a spectacular show where the audience will never have the same experience twice. With songs celebrating forgotten historical characters, embracing the art of storytelling and wonder at what makes people do what they do, there's much to get your teeth into with the baroque-pop of The Sea & I.
