Museums Davos

Kirchner Museum

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880 - 1938) lived in Davos from 1917 until his death. His comprehensive range of work is considered to have exercised a pioneering influence on German expressionism. The Kirchner Museum was opened in September 1992 and represents the largest collection of the artist's work in the world. The museum building was designed by two Zürich architects: Annette Gigon and Mike Guyer. Its unadorned yet clearly articulated style is held in high esteem in international architectural circles.

Winter Sports Museum

The central location of the former post office building, today the seat of the Davos district authority, makes it the most appropriate place to present the wide collection of winter sports equipment and documents donated by the Jürg Kaufmann family from Davos. The impressive exhibits (sledges, bobsleds, skis, skates, curling material, etc.) document the history of winter sports from its very beginning to the present day.

Graubunden Mining Museum

The Graubunden Mining Museum is situated at Schmelzboden near the Davos Monstein railway station. It is housed in the historic administration building dating from the early 19th century. The museum displays mining objects, photos and documents as well as many ores from various earlier mining sites from the whole canton. The exhibition is complemented by an audio-visual show that gives visitors a lasting impression of Graubunden’s first industry. The calcite and mountain crystal exhibition, opened in 2001/2002, is a unique enhancement to this fascinating museum.
