Climate & Recovery

Climate & Recovery

The history of the medical resort Davos began some 140 years ago in 1853 when Alexander Spengler moved from Germany to this rural village of 1'700 inhabitants. Soon he realized the healthy influence of the climate and made its healing powers known.

These healing effects especially help the therapy of allergic and infectuous diseases of the respirational organs. The healthy altitude of 1'560 m above sea-level can only be considered a boon to Davos.

According to recent research the high altitude has a stabilizing effect on the autonomous nervous system, and rises the levels of the suprerenal (cortisone) and sexual hormones (testosterone).

Effective System

The following criterions are the most important parts of the effective system the high alpine climate provides.

  • reduced barometric air pressure
  • thermic balance
  • radiation
  • air quality
  • weather

Climate as Cure

The high alpine climate can only be part of a complete therapy, but treatment with climate is a scientifically approved concept, which is popular with patients, physicians, and even insurance companies.

The supportive powers of the high altitude climate can be proven in the following areas
